Dodgers Collecting Whole Set Of Devil Rays, Trade For Lugo

The Dodgers, feeling they didn't have enough ex-Devil Rays on their staff now that Danys Baez is gone, have traded for Julio Lugo for Sergio Pedroza and Joel Guzman.

I refer you to this. It's not like the Dodgers didn't have enough shortstops, or enough well-below-average ones. At least Cesar Izturis could claim to be a league-average glove at short (BPro subscription required for both those DT cards).

Update: more on this at dodgers.com and Jon's. Also, Josh Rawitch promises conference calls from Ned Colletti and Greg Maddux will be posted soon explaining the trade.

Comments:
After seeing these trades by Ned, all I can say is, "I am a Bill Stoneman fan". If you include the Mark Hendrickson deal, Ned's moves look as nothing more than moves to shut up Hacks who work for the LA times. Ok, so he made trades, but they help the team how?

WTF! What's next, are the Dodgers going to do a waiver wire deal to acquire Betancourt from SEA and convert him to Catcher, thus completing our "IF of SS" manifest destiny?

How long 'til the LA press starts rehashing the "Julio Lugo as Wifebeater" story (rightly or otherwise) from a few years ago?

Dunno, Darren. From the relative frequency of recanted testimony in those cases, I wouldn't be surprised that he actually did beat his wife. (I seem to recall his wife pulled the charges.)

I'm starting to wonder if the D-Rays GM has compromising photos of Ned Colletti?

I think it's time to lead an effort to unseat Colletti. Despite all the bad trades, Colletti said he would not lose patience with the kids and give them time to develop and not trade away at least the immediate future. Not only does he trade away one of those identifiable pieces for a rent-a-infielder who doesn't even want to play the position he's most useful at. On top of that, this trade makes him look like he was actually agreeing with Plaschke "Believe in Blue" garbage. I mean, when you starting making claims that you need to "replace" Jeff Kent, that makes no sense since Lugo has not shown anywhere near the ability of a healthy Kent.
