Say Ahhh: Counting Blogs to Assess Teams' Fan Interest
Since the Times doesn't have any new coverage of the Dodgers or Angels today, I thought as a fun project it might be interesting to look at the number of blogs each team has out to assess fan interest. The sportsblog.org website has something like a representative sample, but there seems to be the requirement that the blogger actually register with that site first. Here's the count for today:
Unfortunately, the above is incomplete (not to mention misspelled in the case of LA): it missed Arrive In The Third, Leave After Seven, an LA sports blog that covers the Dodgers as part of its beat. There ought to be a better way to determine the number of active blogs out there. It may be time for me to write a crawler to request from Google the answer to searches like "Detroit Tigers blog", harvest these for human review, and determine how many are live.

I bring up the Tigers because of an interesting fact: there are actually more active Tigers blogs than Angels blogs. This maybe isn't surprising given the Dodgers' long history of winning championships and the Angels' long history of futility, but leaves and owners change, and it's obvious who's in town for the long haul.
Edit: Duh, fix the links to actually point to the right place.
