Weaver Shuts 'Em Out, Named Pitcher of the Week
Jered Weaver, that is, from my alma mater, Long Beach State, throwing 90 pitches in 7 innings against Cal, with the opposition collecting a scant three hits. He's received national pitcher of the week accolades three times in his career; now he's going up against USC's nine this weekend. The season's early yet, but it must be nice to have an ERA of 0.00. This guy's gonna be a first-round draft pick for sure from what I've read. Now that the Angels have two picks in that round, maybe they end up with him?
Update: Kurt of "Arrive in the Third, Leave After Seven" (to which I have added a link on the sidebar) e-mailed me with the observation that Jered "may be the best Weaver pitching in Southern California." Ouch.
