New And Improved

John Lackey (3-0) has never lost to the Tigers, but they are much improved ...
-- from the Angels' website
I turned on the NBC Olympics coverage because, y'know, it's in HD, and hey, it could be kinda cool. Nope. Instead, bad cuts in and out of ads, horrible announcers who assume I have absolutely no idea what's going on...
After returning from commercial break: the camera is focused on a woman reading a poem.
Announcer:... You're looking at a woman reading a poem.
And so it went. My own damn fault, I suppose. At first, I had the Angels on, but when Jeffy couldn't pull them out of their sinkhole (sorry, Maya), I concluded I'd rather watch Greater Tuna than watch the Angels fail to score against a fourth-place team in the weakest of the weak sister divisions. Improved? Improved? They're in fourth place, man! I mean, really, Lackey loading the bases on two out -- on three consecutive walks?

Helen says she understands, being a Cub fan, that the Angels should be playing better. She knows the feeling of watching a team that oughta be a contender play like Larry, Moe, and Curly. Well: we have tickets to tomorrow's game. I might be watching it through my fingers.

Angels lose, 5-3. Recap

Comments:
Artie Moreno needs to hire a. a new manager, b. a new hitting coach, c. a new GM. #### this team, they don't deserve to make the playoffs. I'm extremely frustrated right now. The sad thing is some of our fellow angels fans are so ####'ing clueless that they don't understand "why why aren't we scoring runs when we hit 10 [singles] a night and everyone's batting .300??" we have some dumbass fans and dumbass management. ####! absolutely embarrassing.

p.s. percival, salmon thanks for your past contributions, now get the hell out.

I see you've been over to the Angels fan forums...?

There's a reason I don't do much over there anymore. Too many hopeless naifs. You've gotta have some power to win (wherever would we be without Troy Glaus?).

I don't think firing Scioscia would help. It's easy to pin the team's woes on him, but it seems to me that the baserunning pandemic has slowed some; and it's typically limited to the newer recruits, anyway. Vlad, in particular, seems to have the brains of a can of Spam on the basepaths.

I will say this about NBC's coverage: plenty of shots of that hot Greek organizer chick. Mitt Romney has nothing on her.

There is no imaginable announcing combination worse than Bob Costas and Katie Couric. This is not meant to be hyperbolic.

That was Katie Couric? I heard the HD coverage was different than the NTSC broadcast -- the woman on the HD broadcast sounded like, well, a lesbian...
