Oakland South

Earlier I dismissed Tyler Blezinsky's assertion that the Dodgers and A's have "common enemies and a shared ideology". I'm not sure I was wrong about that, but if you look at the Cards' recent acquisition of Larry Walker, combined with the uneven nature of the Dodgers' play this year, I realized Tyler may have been on to something. To wit, DePodesta might be a carrier of the disease that causes teams to win their division and choke in the playoffs.

Comments:
The "common enemy" is the enemy of the Angels too, but the team just doesn't know it. If Artie had hired a DePo-think-alike, I would feel as good about the future of the franchise as I feel about the Dodgers'.

I wonder if Vlad is a bad influence with re: plate discipline. I forgot who it was, but you remember that ball golfed inches off the dirt to the outfield for a single last week? wasn't vlad that was for sure... heh.

p.s. if the Dodgers lose to the Cards this year, that'd hardly be choking imo. STL is amazing this year.
their lineup now is 4 1000+ OPS batters, 2 low-power but high avg types, a reggie sanders that can still knock it out, and the 8 and 9 spots.

hm that could've been the angels this year if you lower the bar to 950 OPS, glaus was healthy, and anderson didn't get his bat speed sucked out by arthritis.

Maybe it's not choking, but losing is no fun, dig? I mean, imagine the fate of Braves fans awaiting the Dodgers.
