Welcome To The Junkyard
As I write this, the Phillies just knocked Eric Gagné and the Dodgers around to the tune of 8-5. Heart and soul my rear end, this is the penalty for tossing out Mota. Gagné under little rest is going to get worse, especially -- as seems likely -- when we face the Phils in another close game after two. What an embarrassment.
Final score, Phillies 9, Dodgers 5.
ESPN Box, 'cause stupid mlb.com is down again.
Update: MLB.com recap, now that they're finally back up.
Coda: Much as I appreciated Jayson Werth's two-homer day, that could have killed the series for us right there. If we need Gagné again in a tight spot, we could be in trouble. The tie might have hurt us more than an earlier loss.
Comments:
Carrara, Brazoban, Alvarez and Dreifort combined for seven scoreless innings. Overall the bullpen is still strong. Yeah, Tracy is probably leaning too heavily on Gagne at the moment, but after all the flak he took for not being quick enough to use him last year, who can blame him?
