Dodgers 7, Cardinals 6

First: thanks for the rock star seats, Tommy. What a blast: directly behind home plate, about ten rows back. I'm now 8-0 on Other People's Tickets.

Wowzers. What a game. Fins came up huge for the Blue, 3-3 with a walk, two singles, and a two-run shot well into the bleachers, the game-winner. Belly went deep, too, for number 45, and Green and Werth both wailed homers on the Cards' staff. Green did somehow manage to botch a hit and run, though, by stealing third with Cora at the plate, and was out by a mile. Izzy even snapped his slumplet with a single and a double, 2-4 on the night.

The Cards... the Cards chased Ishii early. He had only one good inning in him -- the first -- and then gave up a leadoff home run to Scott Rolen (who mercifully went down with a bruised knee after the fifth), a single to Jim Edmonds, but finally got out of the second with a line-drive flyball to centerfield.

Then in the third, the floodgates opened. Ishii gave up a single to pitcher Marquis, hit Tony Womack, and recorded his last out when Larry Walker flied out to center. Albert Pujols' double cleaned up the loaded bases, and chased Ishii from the mound. Something tells me that with Edwin Jackson available, Ishii's done for the year as a starter... or not. Guess the Dodgers don't have many choices left.

Alvarez held the Cards down for the remainder of Ishii's start time, up until he walked Pujols in the sixth. With two out, Duaner Sanchez got Luna to pop up to Cora for the final out.

What surprised me was Brazoban only facing two batters, striking out Matheny, and then losing the pitcher. The call to Gagné wasn't entirely unexpected, but letting the kid stay in to face the Cards' leadoff hitter didn't seem that big a stretch, either; and letting Gagné get a couple innings of work early in the series could be problematic in a game where the team's already used a good deal of its bullpen early. Him giving up a homer to Reggie Sanders can't be a good sign.
