Magic Tickets, Again: Dodgers 5, AAA-Backs 3
What really impressed me, at the stadium, was how many of the Snakes' players have been called up this year. In tonight's lineup, the following players had this much major league experience:
Player | Pos. | Experience (AB/IP) |
---|---|---|
Andy Green | UT | 79 AB |
Chad Tracy | 3B | 416 AB |
Chris Snyder | C | 43 AB |
Josh Kroeger | C | 21 AB |
Jerry Gil | SS | 31 AB |
Edgar Gonzalez | RHP | 64.2 IP (2003-2004) |
Mike Gosling | LHP | 1.0 IP |
Scott Hairston | 2B | 300 AB |
Greg Aquino | RHP | 26.2 IP |
All the above -- save for Gonzalez -- are in their first year in the majors. No surprise, then, that the Dodgers beat them, but to the kids' credit, it wasn't a blowout. In fact, only one of the three games in LA was a laugher, and that's a sign, IMO, that the Snakes, while bad, won't be nearly this bad next year. Aquino's a solid reliever, Cintron will probably bounce back next year, and that Snyder kid's on a bit of a tear, with five homers in only 43 AB.
Finley provided most of the night's entertainment value, homering twice in a night where Belly only managed a couple singles, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. Beltre's homer drought now runs to two games, and Dodger fans grow nervous. Some, weary of his inconsistent play, start thinking of trading him for Shea Hillenbrand or Mike Lowell, but they were outshouted by the group cheering Adrian on to an MVP award. Bradley had a nice night for himself at the plate (2-4), but Cesar Izturis' slump -- 4-29 on the month, or .128 -- continues apace. The Dodgers might want to shake things up a bit if this continues.
Joe Thurston even got an eighth-inning pinch-hit at-bat, flying out to right field. Another guy who you can stick a fork in.
Well: from the Snakes, into the snake pit of St. Louis. Good luck, boys -- you'll need it.
