Angels, Guillen Settle

The Angels and Jose Guillen have reached a financial settlement to resolve the grievance filed over his earlier suspension. He will not be on the regular season roster for the remainder of this year, though the team left open the possibility of a postseason appearance. The details of the settlement were not disclosed.

Update: Guillen will not play in the postseason, either, and will lose only $24,000 of his 2004 salary. His return sounds less-than-certain:

Guillen and the Angels both indicated that the outfielder could return to the club in 2005, but the Angels are believed to have asked Guillen to see a counselor to help deal with his anger management issues, which flared up numerous times this year.

Comments:
Rob;
I don't get it. Does this mean a fine or a payment from the Angels?

A settlement. I really don't know what it involves, but apparently they weren't going to pay him part or all of his salary because of the suspension, so I suppose it's a check to Guillen as opposed to the union (for a fine?).

I believe the settlement was that the Angels will pay Guillen 80% of his salary- the union has nothing to do with it.
