Chip Caray Leaves The Cubs

We were treated to a sad farewell by Cubs broadcaster Chip Caray today, and after the explosion trailing Steve Stone's comments, the assumption has to be that the broadcast team will be different stem to stern next year. I like Caray a lot as a play-by-play man, but I doubt he ends up near here. Eric Karros' appearance in the TV booth for Saturday's game tells me he's likely to come to the Dodgers next year, a tolerable-at-best possibility.

Update: Thanks to reader Joe at View From The Bleachers who pointed me to this Atlanta Journal-Constitution story, indicating Skip will join his father in Atlanta's broadcast booth, where he'll make a positive difference there, I'm sure. Best of luck to you, Chip.

Hey Rob,

I am wondering if Karros will wind up in LA as a color guy. He seemed to be very professional, yet very careful when Brenneman asked him about Jim Tracy. I got the distinct feeling he dislikes Tracy a lot, and wonder if the team will bring a guy like that in. When he couldn't stop harping on the decision to let Alvarez hit, I think that only magnified the dislike. What do you think of that?

Mr. Jerz -- I think you got right to the heart of why I don't think Karros will be a good broadcaster for the Dodgers. He's too close to his playing days, harbors too much ill-will, is brittle, and beneath all of it, a seething sense that something has been stolen from him. That doesn't sound like a pleasant way to get through a broadcast.

bitter is the right word for Karros. he could barely contain himself in taking potshots against certain dodgers. the man is certainly not the right fit for our team. certainly he has a right to be bitter, but I don't need to hear about it on a daily basis as a dodgers broadcaster.

hopefully McCourt nixes this one.
