MS-Hosted Blogs And The Passport To Hell
I recall reading somewhere recently (here's a Washington Post article) that Microsoft has decided to launch its own free blog hosting service, not unlike Blogger (which we all know and tolerate). The service, spaces.msn.com apparently requires you to sign up for and use a Passport identity. I discovered this when I read about a blog going down this path via baseballblogs.org. The service even requires you to use Passport if all you want to do is to comment! Passport has been the subject of various criticisms. In general, given Microsoft's poor track record on security and the fact that they at one time wanted my Passport identity to be a single-point login across the Internet, giving them an inch -- in the form of even a login to post comments -- doesn't strike me as being particularly a good idea. Given this piece of information, I cannot endorse MS-hosted blogs whatsoever.
