Rosenthal: Angels Close To Signing Finley

Ken Rosenthal claims the Angels are close to signing Steve Finley to a two-year, $20M deal, which would boot the team from the Beltran sweepstakes. I share Jon's trepidation about Finley: "Ask yourself whether Finley (39), Hernandez (35) and Lima (32), who bucked aging to register improved seasons in 2004, are likely to buck the trend again in 2005 - all while earning more money." There are risks in signing free agents and there are risks in not signing them; fans tend to focus on the latter while ignoring the former.

Comments:
I'd take a chance on Finley before the other two. His conditioning is superb, and he takes it seriously. I love Lima for last year, and am sad to see him leave LA, but I know nothing about how he or Hernandez approach the game off the field.
