Spank Me, Yankees

Another Ken Rosenthal spectacular: Another ... damn ... project. Except -- oh, did I mention this? -- Shawn Green has a no trade clause.

The day just keeps getting better.

Update: what a colorectal exam this offseason has become. The Yanks give up a promising young pitcher who collapsed when exposed to the radiation at Yankee Stadium and/or the AL, and the top-rated prospect in their system; I won't bore you with the details of how bare the cupboard's become over in the Bronx, but they're a-hurtin'. Likewise for Navarro, ranked the fifth-best prospect in their system. (He was number one last year, but "[a]n attempt to get stronger in the offseason backfired, as he came in overweight and lost some bat speed. He never has hit for much power, and his lack of conditioning made matters worse.") The Snakes get the Dodgers' best reliever not named Eric Gagné and a decent if somewhat snakebit-by-injuries starter, not to mention a recuperating Shawn Green. (Maybe Shawn and Troy Glaus can keep each other amused telling each other rehab jokes. "A glenoid fossa walks into a bar...") And of course the Yankees get the most dominant left handed pitcher in major league history.

I can hardly wait to hear the press coverage as the Dodgers announce this one. Some time in mid-April, Vazquez' delivery will still be jacked up, and Jim Colburn won't be around to fix him. Oh, what, you thought Colburn had been signed? Guess again. Last time we looked, he was eyeing a job in the Japanese leagues. Better still, Vazquez' arm will fall off, and we'll be working on Brad Penny v2.0. We're getting jobbed left and right.

Update: the original report on Newsday, which claims the deal is completed, with minor fiddling to work out. Ah, but wait -- DePo says, "I don't know if it's going to happen or not."

Thanks -- I think -- to Richard for snagging this one.
