Trade Formalized, Dodgers Heat Up J.D. Drew Talks
The New York Times reports the big trade is done, and final paperwork has been forwarded to Bud Selig for approval. He will review it first thing tomorrow morning. His review is necessary because the trade includes $3M to buy out the contract of Kazuhisa Ishii. The Times did not make clear which version of the trade will go down, but presumably it has no Chisox players involved. The trade remains subject to physicals by the various players, and the formality of Shawn Green and Randy Johnson waiving their no-trade clauses. The Dodgers want to close a deal soon with J. D. Drew. An earlier report in the Los Angeles Times said the Dodgers wanted to complete a Drew signing prior to the Johnson trade.
