Signings
- The Blue Jays signed Scott Schoeneweis, according to Rotoworld; for two years, $5.2M. Too bad, as I thought he'd make a nice cheap starter for the Angels, but looks like the "cheap" part went out the window.
- I didn't mention it earlier, but Rob Neyer on ESPN Insider makes the case for the Lowe signing, which essentially comes down to
- Lowe was unlucky this year and will revert to better form.
- Lowe doesn't give up home runs (which Dodger Stadium very slightly encourages) but does give up singles, doubles, and triples (which Dodger Stadium viciously suppressed).
- Lowe has been a horse throughout his career.
- Update: The Snakes have signed Shawn Estes, for one year and $2.5M to $3M.
- Update: in that same article, Shea Hillenbrand to the Blue Jays for RHP prospect Adam Peterson. Peterson "is seen as a possible closer candidate".
- The Snakes moved RHP Stephen Randolph to the Chicago Cubs, for a PTBNL. Randolph had a 2-5 record last year, with a 5.51 ERA and peripherals of 6.83 K/9 and 0.82 K/BB. Ewwww. That's mopup time.
- Finally, the Snakes are waving righty reliever Jose Valverde under the nose of Billy Beane, hoping to get (surplus?) outfielder Eric Byrnes back. Valverde was 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA last year, with 11.29 K/9 and 2.24 K/BB rates, not too shabby considering the environment.
