DePodesta To Hold Online Chat Next Tuesday
Paul DePodesta will hold an online chat Tuesday, Feb. 22 on MLB.com at 12 pm PST. I know what I'd ask ...
- Were you surprised by the rapid acceleration of salaries in this offseason?
- Why do you think Derek Lowe will have a better season in Los Angeles than Boston?
- It was pretty clear that the Dodgers weren't under any specific salary constraints. Nonetheless, the team gave out at least two contracts that appear rather one-sided -- Lowe's (in terms of dollars) and Drew's (dollars and terms, especially regarding the player voiding option). What justification would you give to critics of those deals as very high risk?
- By trading Shawn Green, it gave the Dodgers enough salary room to sign Lowe -- a pitcher whose career has been rather spotty. What do you say to fans who question whether, by trading Green (whose risk was limited to his high salary but for a single year) and signing Lowe for 4 years/$36M, the Dodgers have doubled their salary risk and quadrupled their injury/ineffectiveness risk?
- Is the situation at catcher settled for the year?
- The Dodgers' farm system has been highly spoken of lately, yet no significant prospects have come up to help the team, and those who have have disappointed in brief action (Chin Feng Chen, Joe Thurston, and to some degree, Edwin Jackson). Is there anyone we should keep an eye on in 2005 for a late-season callup?
