Mike Chones Up
I know how much Scioscia must like Chone Figgins, because he's covering up for Figgins' postseason miscues:
"Figgy and others in it for the first time came away with the understanding that there's more riding on playoff games, momentum can turn in a heartbeat, but you need to play your game," manager Mike Scioscia said. "It makes you a better player."Except for one small problem: it simply isn't true. Figgy appeared in the 2002 postseason, where he had a 1.000/1.000/1.000 line in one at bat, scoring four runs. Is Mike forgetful? Or just playing PR man?
Comments:
2002 playoffs: Figgins was a PINCH RUNNER who got an at bat rbi single when the team batted around in an 8 run inning in game 5 against the Twins. I don't think he even took the field defensively.
A little different than being thee starting 2B

Understood that his contribution was minor, but Mike was factually wrong here. In fact, if I remember correctly, Figgins actually was caught stealing -- possibly in Game 6 -- of the World Series.
I am a huge Figgins fan, he is my favorite player. But he was shaky in the 2002 playoffs as well. He didn't run the bases with authority, as I recall. Hesitated on the bonds bobble in WS game 6. Got messed up on the basepath in ALDS game five during Kennedy's third home run. Kennedy almost passed him on the basepaths.
