Miscellanea
- Spam, Spam, Spam: Giving out my e-mail address on the sidebar comes with its problems. For one thing, I have to set my anti-spam phasers to the "kill" setting, which means some percentage of legitimate mail gets vaporized along with it. Today alone, it tagged mail from Rich, some old friends setting up an e-mail list, and waaaay back, the proprietor of Independent Thinking as spam. Well: I've fixed that, so it shouldn't happen anymore.
- Speaking of independent league ball, the director of public relations for the Long Beach Armada, Evan Lamont, dropped a line today. I expect there'll be plenty to talk about in the coming months; opening day, still undetermined, should be some time in May. Independent Thinking passes on this Businessweek interview with Dave Kaval, one of the two founders of the Golden Baseball League, and the league in which the Armada will play.
On a related subject, a long-overdue note to Toby Boyce: you got your link. My apologies for not responding sooner.
- Yes, Rich, you're right: Carly got the boot, she didn't just resign.
- Dirtbag Dirt: SS Troy Tulowitzki will be down "for a few weeks" with the hand injury he sustained in the game against St. Mary's on Saturday; his replacement is newbie Evan Longoria.
The Dirtbags (5-1) moved up in all three college baseball polls Monday. They moved to No. 12 in the USA Today Coaches and College Baseball polls and went from No. 22 to 17 in Baseball America. The only top 25 team with more wins is Florida State (6-0).
The team plays USC this weekend, at USC Friday and Sunday, and at Blair Field on Saturday. - Exene, You Leave Me Breathless: Thanks to Matt Welch, discoverer of Indie 103.1. Do they really play X? I think I'm gonna cry...
