Who's Really Winning The LA Turf Wars?

Jon recently noted the Dodgers' shifting marketing campaign, based -- partly -- as a prepared counterattack to Arte's LA billboard assault. Now Randy Youngman of the Register suggests that the Dodgers are "winning [the] freeway follies", mainly on the strength of just how silly the whole thing is. I'll absolutely agree that no matter how silly -- or outright dumb -- he's looked in the past, Frank's never tried to do anything a ridiculous as the LAAoA stunt. On the other hand, ditching HDTV-equipped KCOP for not-so-equipped KCAL... well, let's say I'm looking forward to Arte signing with KCOP at the end of 2005.

Comments:
Somehow I doubt HDTV even entered McCourt's mind when he was renegotiating the TV deals. Nor should it have - the money is far more important than the creature comforts of 5% of the fans. Give it a few years and you may get an outcry (of course by then it's a safe bet that KCAL will support HD).

BTW- The new Blogger commenting set-up is pretty sweet.

As I mentioned the other day, Congress wants you to watch HDTV, the sooner the better. So getting with the program with a broadcaster already set up to do so may accrue some benefits to Arte. On the other hand, it may not matter because the contracts are signed over some number of years. So who knows.

And yeah, the new commenting feature is way cool. I think I'll blog on that later on.

The Dodgers didn't ditch "HDTV-equipped KTTV." They weren't on that station.

Fooey. What I get for doing it from memory and not checking.
