Angels Notes

FutureAngels Adds Sickels, Launches Blog

Richard notes some interesting changes over at FutureAngels. First off, Stephen has corralled John Sickels into writing an occaisional column there, starting with this one about Dallas McPherson. Second, Smith has decided to launch a blog focusing on the Angels' minor league system. Since that's one area currently underserved by the overall Halos blogosphere, it should definitely be worthwhile to check in on. Sidebar changes a-comin'.

Update: Sickels confirms he will be writing a monthly column at FutureAngels.

Stephen, please get yourself per-post links. That is all. Thank you.

Weaver Not So Dreamy? I Dunno...

The unrestrained id of Angels blogdom tells us not to worry about failing to pick up Jered Weaver because, after all, look at all the failures in the list of Baseball America top 100 all-time prospects. Maybe a better list to look at, as pointed out by Mark Whicker in the Register, is the list of Baseball America's players of the year, a list that includes Mark Prior, Mark Teixeira, J.D. Drew, Todd Helton, Jason Varitek, Phil Nevin, John Olerud and Kris Benson -- all solid regulars, at the very least, and many of them legitimate stars.

Comments:
Was that the complete list of players of the year? Let me coast on the Small Sample Size argument until Weaver's pitched a few Major League games...

I agree with you, actually -- I add it for the sake of completeness. But as I have previously said, Weaver's an untested commodity. Giving him a guaranteed contract as such is foolishness. Giving him more money than guys who have actual jobs in the majors is ridiculous. Under the current situation, however, it's not clear there's much choice.
