Pickoff Moves
So, We'll Pencil The Dodgers In For A Third-Place Finish
Ricky Ledee, on the kind of team the Dodgers have assembled:The good teams lineups are set. The young teams play prospects. The middle of the road teams keep and appreciate you.
Tracy's Faint Praise
On Dioner Navarro's qualifications for appearing in a Dodger uniform on opening day:When you talk about offense, do you have enough toward the bottom part of the lineup? If you're uneasy with that, are you forcing added responsibility onto a kid? ... It's about the development of a young player. What's in the best interest of the organization? What's in the best interest of the player? This is a 21-year-old kid.Tracy, after Ishii pitched four shutout innings: "[V]ery adequate...."
Angel Miscellany
From the Times:- Joe Maddon on the Angels' minor leaguers in camp:
This is the best group we've had since Tim Salmon, Garret Anderson, Jim Edmonds, Gary DiSarcina, Damion Easley and Troy Percival were coming up in the early 1990s. These guys remind me of that group in a sense that they're talented and they have great makeup. It's kind of a nebulous thing, but they have a way about them that makes you feel they're going to be big leaguers.
- The Halos are now 9-4 in exhibition games, "primarily because their minor leaguers, who garner the majority of playing time in the first half of Cactus League play, have been outplaying the minor leaguers of other teams."
- John Lackey threw three scoreless innings Sunday despite a blister on the index finger of his pitching hand. He expects to be okay for the rest of spring training.
- Kendry Morales is now supposed to be in camp "by the end of the week". When I was a kid in the Boy Scouts, and we used to go on long hikes in the desert, I'd always ask our scoutmaster how much further it was to the campsite. "It's just around the bend," he'd inevitably say. What I realized after two or three times of this same answer is that he never said which bend the campsite was just around.
Light-ish Blogging For A While
While I promise to try and keep up with any major developments, I'm working on a bunch of stuff, including my big 2005 previews for both teams. My Angels team preview, written with the help of an exciting new co-author, I hope to have completed first. Until that's finished, blogging is likely to be fairly light around here.
