Pickoff Moves
Minor League Demotions
Dodger Hill, which recently changed his name back from Chavez Ravine, noted without attribution the following demotions to the Dodgers' minor league camp. The Decatur Daily Democrat reports as follows:- Angels: RHP Von Stertzbach, RHP Bob Zimmerman, RHP Delvin James, LHP Tim Bittner, C Ryan Budde and C Bobby Wilson. Nobody of real interest, save for Bittner.
- Dodgers: LHP Ryan Ketchner, LHP Derek Thompson, LHP Orlando Rodriguez, RHP Joel Hanrahan, INF James Loney, INF Delwyn Young, OF Tydus Meadows and OF Jon Weber. Ketchner, Hanrahan, Loney, and Young were the names here.
Injuries
- Former Dodger Paul Quantrill is out with sore ribs, but could resume throwing today.
- Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will miss a few days due to a sore elbow, but is expected to take the mound Friday.
- Cubs ace Mark Prior is down indefinitely due to a sore elbow; Kerry Wood has bursitis in his shoulder and is likewise down, but is still penciled in for opening day. Prior may throw off a mound as early as tomorrow.
Update: Aaron Gleeman has a very instructive piece about this situation vis-a-vis the Twins' 2001 draft decision to pick the injury-plagued Joe Mauer. That is, there is no such thing as a sure thing. Scott Boras needs to remember that when Jered Weaver re-enters the draft later this year. And on a similar note from former Cubs broadcaster Steve Stone in the Chicago Sun-Times: Kerry, learn to adjust your fastball or sell cars.
- Tigers 2B Fernando Vina entered the 60 day DL due to "a right hamstring strain and patellar tendinitis in his left knee".
- Mets pitcher Steve Trachsel flew to Los Angeles to see a back specialist after giving up five runs and four hits in 3.1 innings.

The Cub Reporter, which just lost a bunch of writers, gains back a bunch now:- Rob Glowacki (formerly of MVN's Behind The Ivy)
