Report: Dodgers Sending Ishii To Mets
MSNBC claims the Dodgers have arranged a trade of LHP Kaz Ishii for C Jason Phillips. The 28-year-old Phillips hit .218/.296/.326 last year (-5.3 VORP), and recently, Tom Meagher noted Phillips' was well below expectations on batted balls becoming hits. PECOTA sees him recovering from last year's awful performance (projected 7.8 VORP). Phillips made league minimum last year, while Ishii will make $3.23M in 2005, and is owed $5.4M overall with a 2006 buyout clause.
Phillips is little more than a second-string catcher with a tad more upside than Ross, though he did manage a .298/.373/.442, 28.4 VORP season in 2003. If this rumor is true, Ross is looking at a release.
More on this from mets.mlb.com.
Update: The Fourth Outfielder approves.
