Dodger Notes
- A good man from a bad trade: Derek Lowe left the Red Sox last year knowing he wasn't wanted, despite his remarkable postseason performance. The righthander used it as a motivation in Los Angeles to show Boston what they're missing, he said in this USA Today article:
He's off to a 1-1 start with a 1.27 earned-run average, seventh in the majors. "I'm a 100% different pitcher," he says. "My mind is at ease. I'm in a place where I'm wanted. I don't have anything to prove. I'm at ease with where I am."
Originally a Seattle draft pick, Lowe and Jason Veritek were traded to the Red Sox for ... Heathcliff Slocumb. His wife, Trinka, says: "I can see it when he pitches. He isn't standing on the mound thinking, 'If I don't win, I'll be booed by the fans and crucified in the papers.' He's confident, freer."
Yeah.
- According to the Register, Eric Gagné is just a couple days from throwing on the mound.
- Jose Valentin's bruise is feeling better. He should be available for regular duty Monday.
- "Jayson Werth continued to take small steps in his recovery from a broken left wrist. Werth hit off a tee for the third consecutive day and added some soft-toss hitting. He could take batting practice soon with a minor-league injury-rehabilitation assignment to follow."
- "Elmer Dessens was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday in order to make room for Penny on the active roster."
