Angels Disable Escobar
With an elbow injury due to a bone spur; on the 15-day DL. The AP says there is "no immediate word" on an estimated return date.
Chris Prieto (.318/.500/.364 in Angels spring training, .279/.376/.395 minor league career, .279/.430/.422 in 86 AB) got the callup from Salt Lake. Lou Merloni has been moved to the 60-day DL to make room for him. This is Prieto's first callup to the majors.

Ye gods!
Which pitcher do you think they will call up to fill in?
I can't handle watching Gregg as a starter unless I get my hands on some Xanax! I better check with my doctor asap...

I recommend tequila, and lots of it.
Gregg will probably get the starts, but this year he's just been awful. His 2004 April and May are distant memories. The best hope IMO is to get Shields back in the rotation.

Rob,
I think Shields would do fine in the rotation. But don't you think the bullpen is simply too thin without Shields?
Donnelly doesn't yet appear to be the pitcher he was a couple years back and I don't have much faith in Gregg or Yan.
I think Stoneman needs to be thinking about making a trade. He has many prospects in the system right now that are blocked at positions like SS, as you've mentioned before.
