Damn Computers

For the first year in history, the 2005 major league schedule was generated on a computer. So why is it, with millions of people having the day off, that there are only ten games scheduled today, hmm?

Comments:
I remember reading a while back -- sorry, no links to back up my assertation -- that with a few exceptions, teams didn't like scheduling games on Memorial and/or Labor days. The argument against it was that of all the things people could do on their days off -- barbecue, head to the nearest body of water, etc. -- attending ballgames in person wasn't high on the list. Indeed, most of the games being played today probably have some sort of giveaway attached like the postgame fireworks for the otherwise sure-to-be-ignored Athletics-Devil Rays tilt.

In fact, if memory serves, back in 2001, the A's and Twins even played a scheduled Saturday doubleheader for the express purpose of avoiding a Memorial Day game.
