More Notes Before Today's Games
- David Pinto points out that the A's 6-2 loss to Cleveland completed a sweep at the hands of that club, their second in a row. Oakland hosts the Devil Rays for three starting later today.
- The Royals hitting coach Jeff Pentland was fired after yesterday's loss to the Angels.
- Frank Thomas of the Chisox has been activated. Will Carroll recently described Thomas as "likely the best player in White Sox history".
- Update: Casey Kotchman was recalled after Curtis Pride went on the 15-day DL with a wrist injury.
- I somehow missed this in today's Times, but Brad Penny's agent has forwarded a contract proposal to the Dodgers. Penny would like to stay with a contender:
"This is a good place to play, this team will always compete for the playoffs," Penny said. "I'd like to stay."
- Derek Thompson will make another start on Thursday.
"[Dodger Vice President of player development Roy Smith] told me he liked the way I minimized damage," Thompson said. "He said my stuff is good enough to pitch at this level."
Ah, but good enough to stay at this level? That remains to be seen. Take a memo from Edwin Jackson, Steve Schmoll, Joe Thurston, &c. - Again via the Times, Milton Bradley's ring finger, jammed during yesterday's game with the Diamondbacks, came back negative on X-rays, but he will have an MRI tomorrow.
