Quote, Unquote
He's playing like a guy who is awfully interested in playing in a baseball game on July 12 (the All-Star Game).
-- Jim Tracy, regarding centerfielder Milton Bradley"[Weaver] was pitching a great ball game," Bradley said, moments after receiving a hug from Weaver. "He made one bad pitch all night."
-- Milton Bradley, covering for Jim Tracy's mind-shatteringly dumb decision to leave Weaver in after 100+ pitches with the bases loaded, etc., etc., etc.It means I've been on good teams. I take pride in winning games. Personal wins, I don't really like 'em. ... In today's game you don't see many guys stay 9-10 years in one place. I'm thankful for the Giants.
-- Kirk Reuter, on winning his 105th game as a GiantJoe Morgan logic is all fine and good when you just have to sit in a booth and bloviate. It’s another thing when this idiot is in your dugout.
-- Fire Jim Tracy on Mike Scioscia's comment that the Angels haven't had enough runners in scoring positionI'm glad to hear that Scioscia de-emphasizes batting average in his evaluation of players. Although he points to runs scored and RBI as the more important measures, what he really is saying (without doing so) is that Finley's batting average on balls in play is artificially low while his power and plate discipline are basically in line with his career norms.
-- Rich Lederer in Baseball Analysts, on why Scioscia's conventional analysis of Finley's less-than-stellar performance is on the money
