In Sweet Lou's defense, at the time the Devil Rays looked to be a team on the rise (Carl Crawford had arrived, Huff looked like a star in the making, and they had a couple of live arms in Brazelton and Kennedy). But being the Devil Rays, they squandered the opportunity to crawl out of the cellar.
The argument could be made that Pinnella played a much of a role in the (continued) misfortune of the franchise as did Chuck LaMar or Vince Naimoli. (Lou does has the tendency to treat young arms like $5 dollar whores.)
