Minor League Scorebook

2005-07-25: Las Vegas 9, Salt Lake 4
Callaspo, A: 1-5
Kotchman: 3-3, 2 BB, 1 HR
Pride: 0-3, 2 BB
Mathis: 2-5
Gorneault: 3-4
Andrews: (L, 6-5), 4.2 IP, 4 ER, 1 K, 3 BB, 5.72 ERA
Borbon: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Send in the clowns: The Stingers committed a franchise record seven errors in this game, including one by the normally rock-solid Kotchman (who botched a throw), Jeff Mathis (a botched pickoff), and Curtis Pride (throwing error). Kotchman's and Pride's errors didn't cause the Stingers any harm, but Mathis' blown pickoff combined with shortstop Jose Caldera's boot of a groundball allowed Cody Ross to keep the inning going and the 51's to score -- with two down. An embarrassing game for the Stingers which overshadowed Kotchman's offensive resurgence; not only did he homer, but he got a pair of doubles and walked twice. Two of Gorneault's three hits were doubles as well.
2005-07-25: Arkansas 7, Springfield 13
Willits, R: 3-5
Aybar, E: 2-5
Kendrick, H: 1-5
Morales, K: 0-5
Porter: 3-3
Aspito: 2-5
Eylward: 2-3, 1 HR
Davidson: (L, 9-5), 5.0 IP, 6 ER, 6 K, 0 BB, 4.53 ERA
Greg Porter doesn't make the prospect lists; he's quietly having a reasonable season (.306/.332/.462 going into today's game), but he's got about the worst K/BB ratio I've ever seen: 67/14.
2005-07-25: Lake Elsinore 9, Rancho Cucamonga 2
Wood, B: 1-4
Pali: 2-4, 1 HR
Lopez: 0-2
Hunter: (L, 6-7), 5.2 IP, 7 ER, 3 K, 5 BB, 4.86 ERA
DeLoizaga-Carney: 1.2 IP, 2 ER, 0 K, 2 BB, 6.98 ERA
2005-07-25: Cedar Rapids 6, Fort Wayne 7
Rodriguez, S: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Collins: 1-5
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 HR
Madrigal: 2-5, 1 HR
Sutton: 2-5
Gelinas: 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 0 K, 2 BB, 3.87 ERA
Gonzalez: (L, 1-3) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 0 K, 2 BB, 6.18 ERA
2005-07-25: AZL Giants 12, AZL Angels 3
Mount: 2-4
Jepsen: (L, 0-1), 0.2 IP, 5 ER, 0 K, 3 BB, 11.12 ERA
There's precious little info on the AZL Angels online, so I have to believe that Jepsen was injured.
2005-07-25: Orem vs. Casper: Postponed: Rain
2005-07-25: Las Vegas 9, Salt Lake 4
Valentin: 2-4
Aybar: 1-5
Nakamura: 0-3, 2 BB
Theodorou: 3-5
Navarro, D: 2-4
Nall: (W, 5-3), 6.0 IP, 4 ER, 3 K, 3 BB, 6.75 ERA
Gonzalez: 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, 4.27 ERA
Navarro doubled in tonight's game. According to MLB.com, the Dodgers are asking Valentin to get some practice in the outfield while in Las Vegas. That hasn't happened yet, but he's played third again without any pain in his elbow.
2005-07-25: Tennessee 0, Jacksonville 7
Donovan, T: 0-2, 2 BB
Weber, J: 3-4, 3 RBI
Young, D: 3-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
LaRoche, A: 2-2, 2 BB, 1 HR
Loney: 1-4
Guzman, J: 0-4
Martin, R: 1-4
Billingsley: (W, 8-4), 8.0 IP, 0 ER, 10 K, 1 BB, 4.05 ERA
WOO AND HOO! Now, as I've been saying repeatedly, let's see the kid do this again at a higher level, but ... Jebus X. Christ. Five perfect frames, and a two-hitter through eight innings. Both Andy LaRoche and Delwyn Young homered; Young was a triple shy of the cycle.
2005-07-25: Vero Beach vs. Fort Myers: Postponed: Rain
2005-07-25: Columbus did not play
2005-07-25: GCL Nationals 17, GCL Dodgers 0
Sanfler: (L, 2-2), 2.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 K, 4 BB, 2.92 ERA
Castillo: 2.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB, 5.87 ERA
Sanfler had given up five earned runs in 22.2 IP prior to this game, with a K/BB ratio of 23/11. Five errors by the Dodgers contributed to the loss.
2005-07-25: Ogden 8, Idaho Falls 3
Godwin: 2-5
Mitchell: 3-5
Mooneyham: 0-3, 2 BB
Richmond: 2-5
Apodaca: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Crist: 2-4
Pfeiffer: (W, 3-2), 8.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB, 6.75 ERA
A fourteenth-round pick in the 2003 draft, David Pfeiffer had a 0.94 ERA last year in 22.1 IP with only two walks all year in five starts with the GCL Dodgers; this year he's putting up similar strikeout numbers in Ogden, but far more walks in his second pass at that level.
