More Roster Moves
Not necessarily of interest to the western divisions, but stuff I find intriguing, anyway...
- Jay Payton's new place will be in Oakland after a blowup with Boston manager Terry Francona over Payton's slot in the batting order. The A's will be sending reliever Chad Bradford in return.
- The Cubs have optioned erstwhile centerfielder Corey "You Suck" Patterson. Patterson amassed a .232/.270/.379 line, his worst performance since 2001. Jason DuBois (.239/.289/.472, 142 AB), this year's Hee Seop Choi for Dusty Baker, who never met a veteran he disliked or a rookie he liked, was also sent down. The Cubs purchased the contracts of Adam Greenberg and Matt Murton from AA Tennessee.
- I missed this when it happened, but the Yankees did something (for them) rare and unheard of since Jeter got laquered with Yankee stardust: they called up a rookie, in this case 20-year-old Melky Cabrera. Imagine, and they didn't add another $10M to the payroll...
- Not a move -- yet -- but a rumor that the Giants may be close to calling it a season and are thinking of moving Omar Vizquel to the Chisox, possibly along with Jason Schmidt.
- The Mariners continue to work on potential trades for Brett Boone, who was DFA'd a few days ago. The Padres, Twins, and Red Sox are supposedly engaged in discussions, but nothing solid has turned up so far. Seattle has until Monday to trade or release Boone.
Comments:
well, it's natural. now that the dodgers are pretty much out of contention, it's not like getting a particular player is going to make or break the season. that said, i still would love to see dunn as a dodger, if it was a good trade.

Vishal - I live in Cincy. Dunn is a mirage, a one tool player - he can yak the ball out of the yard. Dude is out of shape, with that kinda attitude to go with it. Believe me, he already tastes that $9 million contract in 2007. D is so bad, all the talk is 'Dunn to first base'. Not fast, even tho he used to be a star QB. And everyone know's about his affinity for the K. In Depo I trust (I hope).
