Pickoff Moves
Night Side: Astros 3, Dodgers 2
Is Ghame Over, over? I'm not sure, but it's an amazing event when a Rule 5 draftee can match a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer who's having yet another career year at 41 -- and still lose. Brutal.Day Side: Astros 4, Dodgers 2
A rare day Saturday game, I caught the tail end of this on Fox HD due to the national broadcast. One of the things that was really frustrating to me during last night's game was the recognition that the cameras were all HD ready, so what's the deal with getting the broadcast into HD? I don't get it.Anyway -- Weaver has a quality start, Carrara provides another reason to expel him next season, and the Dodgers dump another winnable game from a team having a rough time. Sad.
Roster Notes
- Kelvim Escobar reports no soreness or swelling in his surgically repaired elbow, a significant improvement over the last time he had this operation. Escobar is expected to rejoin the rotation after eight weeks.
- In the story above, Dallas McPherson was sidelined due to an inflamed hip and will go on the 15-day DL. He was replaced with INF Zach Sorensen on the 25-man roster.
- Steve Finley was expected to make a rehab appearance at tonight's Rancho Cucamonga game.
- As expected, Kelly Wunsch will not pitch again this year. Rickey Ledee was activated from the DL to replace him.
- Milton Bradley was able to take 40 swings from the left side and 20 swings from the right.
- Jose Valentin took batting practice and was able to do angle running for the first time since going on the DL.
- CF Mark Kotsay has signed a 3-year, $15M extension with Oakland. The first year of his agreement supercedes the current year of his contract.
- The Rockies have tentatively agreed to trade OF Preston Wilson to the Nationals, according to Ken Rosenthal. In exchange, Colorado will get back RHP Zach Day and prospect J.J. Davis. The two teams are still negotiating over how much money Washington needs to send back to pay for the balance of Wilson's $12.5M salary.
Keep Yer Mouth Shut, Jeff
One doesn't call one's former boss unprofessional to the press, no matter how true it might be. It's bad form.
