Pickoff Moves
Baseball America Gives It Up
Angels prospects 2B Howie Kendrick and SS Brandon Wood top off today's Prospect Hot Sheet. Dodgers prospect Andy LaRoche dropped in at 9th. Sergio Pedroza and Justin Orenduff got a nod in the "In The Team Photo" section. In Which I Get What I Deserve: WaPo On Scully
Jon links to a Washington Post article on Vin Scully, including a link to the Koufax perfect game. Well, (a) traffic, and (b) so much for flying under the radar.Update 7/6: And now, from the Wall Street Journal. Thanks. I think.
Roster Moves
- Obviously, OP is back with the team and made today's start.
- Brett Tomko has returned to the Giants rotation. Word is Kirk Rueter may not be long for the rotation after an embarrassing collapse in which he got the hook after four innings, giving up seven earned runs in the 11-10 loss.
- The Chisox have called up former Angels prospect/headcase Bobby Jenks from double-A Birmingham, for tonight's game against the Devil Rays.
- The Dodgers promoted Chin-Feng Chen to the big club yesterday. According to the Register,
Chen holds the Las Vegas franchise records in a handful of offensive categories including home runs. But this is his sixth promotion to the Dodgers, and he finally got his first major-league hit - a two-run single in the seventh inning.
Given the way things have gone, we can probably count on him starting for another month before he falls prey to injury, and the Dodgers start Andy LaRoche... - Barry Bonds continues his rehab in Los Angeles and will rejoin the Giants during the upcoming series here. I trust he has been talking to these people (just kidding)...
- The Giants also activated LaTroy Hawkins yesterday. He promptly gave up a run in yesterday's contest in only one third of an inning, facing three batters.
- Cubs first baseman and strong NL MVP candidate Derreck Lee left today's game early with left shoulder irritation.
- Update: Cesar Izturis was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to July 1. No replacement has yet been named.
- Wilson Alvarez pitched a scoreless inning in relief at AAA Las Vegas tonight.
- Second-round pick Josh Wall signed with the Dodgers, terms unknown. Update 7/6: More on this from WBRZ; no signing bonus known, and it may not become known because of a clause in his contract forbidding him from disclosing it, but it is estimated to be in the $500,000 to $800,000 range.
- Tracy has used the All-Star break to skip D.J. Houlton's next start; he will start again on July 23 vs. New York.
- Update 2: Jeff Kent is day-to-day after leaving today's game in the sixth inning.
