Heartwarming Stories And The Evil Ericksons Who Infest Them

Steve didn't make it clear what was so evil about Scott Erickson in this Times story, but it was this passage (appearing on the second page of the article):
In two of Robles' first three games, though, his defensive lapses made it tough on Dodger pitchers.

Five innings after he looked skyward to thank God for the fulfillment of his promise to his mother, he misjudged a foul pop-up, deferred to Izturis and left fielder Ricky Ledee, and watched the ball fall to the ground. Two pitches later, Cardinal outfielder Reggie Sanders hit a three-run home run that blew the game open.

"With a lineup like theirs, it's tough to give extra outs," pitcher Scott Erickson grumbled, and the contrite Robles kept his head buried in his locker.

Of course, Erickson is right, but given the number of home runs he's allowed, he needs to keep his entire body in the locker, preferably during the game.

Tracy: Division Winnable Without A Winning Team?

Yup:
"I've been saying this for days: You look at where we stand right now and if there are no significant changes to the other three teams, the Padres could win this with an 81-81 record".

Cabrera To Share Time At Short

Thank God:
"He's vital to our team — he's our everyday shortstop — and we want to make sure his elbow is sound," Scioscia said. "He understands there might be a time when his arm needs a day to recuperate."

Cabrera's elbow — and not his ego — will guide those decisions. "Hopefully we'll get to a point where we can read him, and when he needs a day off, he'll get one," Scioscia said.

If his elbow has bone chips, it could go a long way to explaining why his swing has been so awful.

Angels Interested In Bullpen Help

In the Times article above, the Angels are apparently interested in several situational lefties, Ron Villone of the Mariners, Brian Fuentes of the Rockies, and the Pirates' John Grabow.
