Some (Angels Minor League) Games
Quakes 7, Jethawks 2
I was playing mah jongg when this one went down. Unfortunately, the stupid audio feed doesn't work with Linux or I would have listened to this one -- Jered Weaver was on the mound -- but man, the kid's coming back and fast. Six innings, 11 strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and one earned run. Offensively, the Quakes got the job done even without Howie Kendrick on the roster; Brandon Wood went 1-3 with a walk, but catcher Bobby Wilson and RF Brandon Balkcom each went 2-4 and picked up a pair of RBIs, Wilson's on a two-run dinger off Lancaster starter Garrett Mock.Travelers 2, Hooks 0
The Travs blanked the Hooks on a complete game shutout by Steven Shell. Shell, who gave up seven hits and one walk in the away game at Whataburger Field (!), struck out seven along the way, retiring 18 of the first 21 batters, and striking out the side in the fourth. Kendry Morales went 4-4 and scored a run. Both sides worked quickly, as the game was over in 2:35.Howie Kendrick was promoted to Arkansas but did not arrive in time for the game. Alberto Callaspo was promoted to Salt Lake, and INF Ryan Leahy sent down to Rancho. You can see Brandon Wood won't get much more time to ply his trade in single-A.
Grizzlies 10, Stingers 5
Alberto Callaspo went 1-5 with a triple and an RBI but committed two errors in his AAA debut as the Stingers fell to the Grizzlies 10-5. Evan Thomas (7.31 ERA, 3-2) took the loss for the Stingers; Dusty Bergman was the only Salt Lake pitcher to throw a scoreless frame (1.1 IP, 1 K), as every Fresno batter got at least one hit. Casey Kotchman went 1-5 with a double and a run scored, and Nick Gorneault walked four times; Jeff Mathis was 1-3 with a walk.Newer› ‹Older
