We Could Be Heroes
- Jeff Mathis went 2-4 with three RBIs and a home run for the Stingers in a 6-5 squeaker against Tucson, taking the series. Casey Kotchman and SS Zach Sorensen both went 2-4, Kotchman with a double.
- Witchita avenged yesterday's 9-1 whipping by walloped the Travs 16-2. Kyle (8-6, 3.97 ERA) got the win for the Wranglers, striking out six over seven innings.
- Rancho had the day off.
- Cedar Rapids again beat the Ft. Wayne Wizards, 4-2. The Kernels benefited from a solid outing from Joe Torres (1-7, 12.71 ERA), recently reassigned from Rancho; Torres gave up one earned run in five innings, walked three, and struck out four.
- Orem again beat Casper in the final game of their series, which the Owlz took 5-1. Mark Trumbo went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs; recently demoted (from Rancho) Hainley Statia went 3-3.
- Las Vegas blasted Fresno 8-3. Outfielder Henri Stanley homered twice, both solo shots. 1B Bryan Myrow and RF Tony Schrager both collected three RBIs on the night, Schrager with a two-run dinger.
- The Suns squished the Bay Bears 5-1 as Andy LaRoche went 3-4, and James Loney went 2-4 with two RBIs. Also with multihit nights were Jon Weber (3-5, two doubles), Delwyn Young (see, I am trainable -- 2-4 with a double and two RBIs), and freshly promoted Justin Ruggiano (2-4 with a solo home run). Chad Billingsley (6-4, 4.22 ERA) struck out nine and walked two over five innings. The game represented a sweep of the four-game series, not counting the rain-postponed game on the 7th.
- Sarasota beat Vero Beach yesterday, 5-4, despite being outhit by them 12-8. Chin-Lung Hu (sadly playing shortstop instead of first base, .281/.324/.403) went 4-5 on the night. Brian Pilkington (2-6, 4.09 ERA) took the loss, giving up two earned runs over five and a third innings. Sloppy play hindered the Dodgers' effort, as they made three errors in the game.
- The Catfish lost to the Crawdads 6-3, with pitcher Christopher Malone taking all the damage in five innings, including a hit batter. 2B Travis Denker (3-4, .293/.416/.502 with 14 HR), 3B Blake DeWitt (2-4 with a homer and two RBIs), LF Lucas May (2-4), and C Gabriel Gutierrez (2-3 with a walk) all had multihit games.
- 1B Adolfo Gonzalez had a great game for himself, going 4-4 with a double and four RBIs in the GCL Dodgers' 6-3 win over the GCL Marlins. Ramon Paredes (2-0, 2.03 ERA, 13.1 IP) got the win in five innings, striking out seven. Three Marlins errors helped the Dodgers.
- Can somebody tell me what a Chukar is? It looks like some kind of giant chicken, which isn't the best of all possible mascots. Whatever, the Ogden Raptors beat 'em last night, 7-4. Sergio Pedroza got a bases-clearing double for three RBIs, but Santana (2-4), McConnell (2-4), Adkison (3-4), and Everett (2-3 with a walk) also had multiple hits, while catcher Juan Apodaca (recently demoted from Columbus) and LF Andrew Locke homered. Cody White got the win in five innings of work.
