Another Steroids Suspension: Ryan Franklin
Mariners pitcher Ryan Franklin has tested positive for steroids and will face a ten-day suspension.
Update: More on this from U.S.S. Mariner, which opines that the M's appear to have more players suspended for steroid use than any other team.
Only tangientially related but also from USSM, it looks like both Scott Spiezio and Dave Hansen will be cut this week; veteran reliever and former Angel Shigetoshi Hasegawa will be DFA'd, and starter Joel Pineiro will be demoted to AAA Tacoma. Rumors that Felix Hernandez will start today against Detroit appear to be unfounded, as the M's website lists Jorge Campillo as tonight's starter. Hernandez is scheduled for Thursday's game, though.
Comments:
Halofan said "proof they don't work". Au contraire, say I. Isn't this just further evidence that using steroids only helps hitters?
And more Mariner related tidbits. Send your cursor all the way down the page the comment about the Twinkies releasing Boone. Now let's put that together with Sandfrog Spiezio in this post, and merrily note that Boone now has as many releases this year as Spiezio has hits.
This last winter, Spiezio had to choose between his band and his bat. He chose poorly.
