Minor League Scorebook

To start off, here's some notes from the minors. First, here's an MILB.com story about the return of Chuck Tiffany.
"I'm happy with where I'm at," he said. "L.A.'s my hometown team, but I'm happy here. I'm wearing the Dodgers uniform and I love it. It's something I've always wanted to do."

...

But as he continues to put up impressive numbers, Tiffany sometimes wonders why he's hasn't moved up yet.

"I wish I knew, I really do," Tiffany said. "It's all in the Dodgers' hands -- whatever they want to do. Honestly, it's just like I'm on a rollercoaster. I'm on a ride and just doing what I have to do, whatever I can, to make it to the top."

Speaking of the Dodgers minors, here's a piece about Cashman Field:
"We're the closest thing [Vegas has] to a Major League team in any sport," [51's Media Director Jim] Gemma said. "Las Vegas doesn't have any other professional teams that the fans can call their own. Everyone in Vegas knows where Cashman Field is, and they are proud of it."
Too bad about the product on it cough, cough.

Finally: Rotoworld announced the PTBNL in the Jose Cruz, Jr. trade, and it's Tony Schrager, a nondescript, 28-year-old second baseman who got an NRI invite to Dodgers spring training, and booted around several organizations previously.

And now, on with the scores...

2005-08-12: Salt Lake 3, Tacoma 2

Callaspo, A: 0-3
McPherson: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Budde: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Saunders: (W, 3-3), 8.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 3.46 ERA
Low-scoring game? Must be in Tacoma. Joe Saunders had a phenominal game, four-hitting the Rainiers. D-Mac's two-run blast provided the game winner. Rainier Chris Buglovsky (love that name!) took the loss.

Update 8/13: According to this Stingers press release, the Angels have released LHP Pedro Borbon, Jr.

2005-08-12: Arkansas 7, Frisco 10
Aybar, E: 2-4, 1 RBI
Willits, R: 1-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Kendrick, H: 1-5
Napoli, M: 2-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI
Morales, K: 2-4
Weaver: 4.0 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 5.68 ERA
O'Sullivan: (L, 1-2) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 5.74 ERA
Pullin: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 5.68 ERA
Oh, well: Three errors helped the Rough Riders defeat the Travs tonight, on a very eventful day that saw former Trav Jeff Mathis transported to the majors. Unfortunately for Jered Weaver, none of those errors subtracted any earned runs from his totals as all runs charged against him were earned. Looks like it'll take a while longer for him to get to the Show. If it's any consolation, former Texas starter Ron Mahay only lasted an inning and two thirds after giving up four runs, three earned. How embarrassing is it to (a) be DFA'd straight to AA, and (b) start your tenure there with a 16.20 ERA after only one game?

Six extra-base hits in this game, doubles by Kendry Morales and LF David Gates, and a pair of homers by Mike Napoli, and a dinger by CF Reggie Willits.

2005-08-12: Rancho Cucamonga 8, Modesto 7
Peel, A: 2-4
Leahy: 2-4, 1 RBI
Wood, B: 1-4, 1 RBI
Johnson: 5-5, 1 RBI
Posey: 3.2 IP, 6 ER, 10.12 ERA
Prinz: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA
Thompson: (W, 5-8) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.91 ERA
Zimmermann: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.65 ERA
Big Ben: Ben Johnson went 5-5, four singles and a double in a close one. The difference in the game was passed ball by Modesto catcher Jonathan Herrera that allowed Brandon Wood to score. Modesto made three errors on the night.
2005-08-12: Kane County 3, Cedar Rapids 4
Casilla: 2-6
Rodriguez, S: 2-6, 1 RBI
Sandoval, F: 2-5, 1 RBI
Collins: 1-4, 1 RBI
Leblanc: 2-5, 1 RBI
Madrigal: 2-6
Ray: 7.0 IP, 3 ER, 4.29 ERA
Gonzalez: (W, 2-5) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 4.93 ERA
2005-08-12: AZL Angels 10, AZL Brewers 12
Quinlan: 1-4
Ryan: 2-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Davies: 4-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Edwards: 1-2, 2 BB
Espinoza: 4.0 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 3.72 ERA
Diaz: (L, 3-2) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.57 ERA
You knew Espinoza would get shelled eventually, right? Well, maybe "eventually" isn't strong enough, because it's happened previously.

Boy, Quinlan sure does seem to be taking his time getting back in shape, doesn't he?

2005-08-12: Great Falls 1, Orem 3
Coon: 2-3
Statia: 2-4, 1 RBI
Trumbo: 2-4
Reilly: 2-4
Arredondo: 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 5.60 ERA
Sullivan: (BS, 2)(W, 4-2) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.16 ERA
21-year-old Jose Arredondo got the win tonight. A free-agent signing from the Dominican, he started the year at Arkansas but was demoted after about three weeks to Orem -- where he proceeded to get in a real funk. It wasn't always that way; a month ago, he logged a phenominal six-inning, three-hit shutout of Casper, but he's mostly been used as a long reliever.
2005-08-12: Tucson 5, Las Vegas 6
Flores: 3-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Young, D: 1-5
Aybar: 0-4
Nakamura: 1-2, 3 BB
Edwards: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Nall: 3.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 7.32 ERA
Neu: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.92 ERA
Rupe: (W, 4-6) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 6.93 ERA
Osoria: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.31 ERA
2005-08-12: West Tenn 2, Jacksonville 5
Abreu, T: 1-4
Loney: 0-4
Martin, R: 1-2, 1 RBI
Garcia: 2-4, 1 RBI
Hanrahan: (W, 8-7), 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 4 BB, 4.93 ERA
Kuo: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1.31 ERA
Another good outing by Hanrahan, and a very good one by Kuo.
2005-08-12: Palm Beach 2, Vero Beach 5
Paul: 2-3, 2 BB, 2 RBI
Hu: 1-4, 1 RBI
Raglani: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Kemp: 1-4
Dunlap: 0-3
Denker, T: 1-4
Rohan: 2-4, 1 RBI
Tiffany: (W, 10-6), 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 3.71 ERA
Ojeda: 3.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 2.95 ERA
2005-08-12: Columbus 5, Charleston 2
Dewitt: 2-4
Westervelt: 2-5, 1 RBI
Gutierrez: 2-3, 1 RBI
Elbert: 4.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 4 BB, 3.00 ERA
Nelson: (W, 3-1) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.14 ERA
2005-08-12: GCL Mets 3, GCL Dodgers 12
Mora: 2-3
Bell: 3-5, 4 RBI
Perez: 3-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Robinson: 3-3, 1 RBI
Megrew: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Paredes: (W, 6-0) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 2.34 ERA
The Dodgers beat the Mets at two levels today, and a laugher at the minor league level; no Mets pitcher escaped unscathed. Third baseman Joshua Bell collected four RBIs on three hits.
2005-08-12: Billings 1, Ogden 3
De Jesus: 2-4, 1 RBI
Justis: 3-4, 2 RBI
Leach: (W, 4-3), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 10 K, 3 BB, 2.65 ERA

Comments:
Nice line for Prinz, too. 10 strikeouts in 8 innings for a guy coming off an arm injury - I'll take it.

That's interesting because he only threw two, but it sure beats getting the snot kicked out of him.

Never mind, I get your meaning.

Cashman field in LV is a disgrace. It is one of the worst ,if not the worst field in the PCL. I hope the Dodgers AAA team is able to move to a better environment. If major league BB ever tries to move to LV it will be a laugher, worst than the Rockies!

Um, too late.
