Sign The Patent Office Has Lost Its Mind
Via Slashdot, the US Patent Office has accepted a patent application for an algorithm to determine when baseball games are exciting. The New York Times notes that Microsoft has taken out a bumper crop of patents this summer -- about 3,000 -- at a time when Bill Gates has set increased annual patent applications as a goal. Given that some of his other patents are for things like adding and removing whitespace to a document and creating a note for a document related to a phone call, you have to wonder just how novel any of this is. (IMO, software patents are bad law.)
