Images Of Lost Angels
Thanks to Bob Timmermann for pointing out this LA Public Library photo search of their archives, including a lot of material donated from the archives of the Herald-Examiner when it shut down in 1989. In particular, check out these shots:
- William Wrigley holding plans for Wrigley Field, Los Angeles (caption), ca. 1924.
- Wrigley Field (caption), where the Angels played their first game.
- Night baseball debuts (caption) at Wrigley Field, Los Angeles in 1930, almost sixty years before its Chicago namesake would get lights.
- The PCL Angels play for the pennant (caption) in 1930.
- What might have been: Wrigley Field reinvented as a 60,000 seat arena (caption). (The land shown as parking lots on the left is now all a city park.) This could have been an alternate site for Dodger Stadium at one time.
- Demolition of Wrigley (caption), 1969. The Angels had moved to Anaheim, leaving their old hitter-friendly stadium behind.
- Anaheim Stadium (caption) on a rainy April 11, 1969. (The rain subsided and the Angels would win that game, their season opener, 4-2.)
