Pickoff Moves, Late Edition
Roster/UTK Notes
- J.D. Drew's season is over, unsurprisingly.
- Ricky Ledee will not need surgery, so far, for his banged-up hamstring.
- Despite rumors elsewhere, Odalis Perez is not done for the year. He will throw off the mound tomorrow. According to the Times, the Dodgers plan on using him in the bullpen exclusively.
- Wilson Alvarez will throw to hitters Tuesday and again later in the week before retiring for good.
- Jarrod Washburn will miss a start thanks to forearm tendinitis. Joe Saunders is expected to replace him.
- Colon looks good for his next start.
- The Angels recalled Joel Peralta.
- From today's UTK, we learn the Giants' Jason Schmidt will probably miss a week with his groin strain.
- Regarding the midseason estimated return date of Cesar Izturis, Carroll says, "It’s not often I can use Tony Womack as a positive example, but Izturis is in the hands of the master. Take the under."
- Bobby Crosby will miss another ten days due to his fractured ankle.
Postseason Coin Tosses
In the event of a tie in the AL West, the deciding game would be held in Anaheim. Not Paying Attention Dep't: On Konerko
Matt Hurst of the Press-Enterprise wonders aloud why the Angels don't pick up free agent Paul Konerko in the upcoming offseason. Well, here's some reasons:- He'll be 30 in the first year of his contract. No more aging players for me, thanks.
- He strikes out in about 20% of his at bats, consistently, making him a bad fit philosophically for the Angels.
- The Angels already have a pair of 1B/DH types either in the system or at the major league level now. What are Kotchman and Kendry Morales, sliced Velveeta?
