Pickoff Moves

Okay, Barry, I Take It All Back

Remember when I said I wasn't a Bonds fan? I take it all back. Thank God somebody has the chestnuts to tell the House Committee on Government Reform -- and exactly how steroids have anything to do with government reform, they haven't told us yet -- to go do something more important, like dealing with the FEMA mess, say, or investigating the one billion dollars that vanished in Iraq that was earmarked to train the new government's security forces. I take it all back, Barry -- but for one day only. As a Dodger fan, I can do no less.

Southside Fear

This collapse, historic? You bet. If the Chisox don't make it to the postseason, it would be the worst collapse since the Angels' 1995, and in fact, the worst ever. With their 8-0 loss yesterday putting the Sox 2.5 games over Cleveland, the news really should be more about the Indians resurgence rather than the Sox' sudden fall into decrepitude; since August 1, when the Sox last held that storied 15-game lead, the team has played 23-25, hardly a terrible record by any stretch, but not one inducing a lot of confidence, either. Meantime, the Indians went 34-12. With so few games left in the season, you might think that the Indians wouldn't have quite enough room to fly past the Sox in the standings. Maybe, maybe not. While the Pale Hose play Minnesota and Detroit, Cleveland plays Kansas City and the Devil Rays, with both teams finishing their seasons against each other in Cleveland. It will be an interesting race.

Roster Notes

Comments:
There are plenty of folks who "speak truth to power" and aren't total asshats at the same time. It would mean more to me if it was something more than self-interest on Bonds' part.
