Angels Decline Christiansen's Option

The Angels have declined the $1.05M option on Jason Christiansen.

Comments:
You think?

Oh yeah... The Angels.... I kinda forgot about them.

Too bad the Halos didn't have a servicable left hander in the minor leagues they could plug into the bullpen if they get LOOGY crazy in 2006 - I don't know - someone like Dusty Bergman.

Stoneman is kinda stupid.

He sure has let a lot of depth walk, eh?

Rob -

That is a good way to put it actually. I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but that is probably the best simple description of his foibles over the last 12 months. Letting depth get away for free.

Depth? The two players Stoneman traded would have been lost in the Rule 5 draft or through minor league free agency anyway. Check your facts before you start yelling.

Traded? I believe we were talking about the following players, all of whom were allowed to leave on waivers:

- Bobby Jenks
- Joel Peralta
- Derrick Turnbow

If you're going to get snippy about particulars, make sure you yourself have your facts straight, bud.

The orignial topic was regarding Christiansen. The Angels gave up Ray and Bergman. Bergman was not on the 40 man roster, was to become a minor league FA, he would have left at the end of the year anyway. I would be surprised if Ray ever made it the show.

Who would you drop to place Bergman on the 40 man? Besides Paul (no excuse I know...)

Re: peralta. The guy sucked, he has no overpowering pitch, would never be a top 4 pitcher in the pen, and took up a spot on the 40 man.

Re: Turnbow. No idea what happened here.

Re: Jenks. Read the SI article a bit back, although obviously we should have waited on him, his fastball was maxing out in the high 80's when he was dropped fr/ the 40 man to make way for Kendry Morales.

It's nice to finally have so many prospects, when it is hard to fit the all the prospects that need to be placed on the 40 man prospect. Was this an issue ever in the pre-Stoneman era? C'mon!
