Minor League Scorebook
As always, news first:
- Baseball America has their 2005 minor league all-star teams list up, and the names Howie Kendrick (2B) and Brandon Wood (SS) with the Angels, and Andy LaRoche (3B) with the Dodgers come up on the first team list. Russell Martin (C) in the Dodgers system appears on the second team.
- In BA's 2005 minor league classification all-stars, Jeff Mathis makes the cut behind the dish at AAA. Erick Aybar at SS makes the cut for the Angels, and Russ Martin of the Dodgers makes the AA list; interestingly, BA gives Manager of the Year award to prospective Dodger manager Torey Lovullo. Howie Kendrick and Brandon Wood get the nod at high-A for the Angels, with Wood getting the Player of the Year nod. At that same level for the Dodgers, Andy LaRoche and Matt Kemp. The Dodgers' Scott Elbert made the Low-A level, but neither team had a player in the Rookie-A level list.
- Again with the BA statistical wrapup, the Angels' Brandon Wood appears on the leaderboards for home runs, extra-base hits, doubles, and total bases (topping those, natch), runs scored, slugging percentage, hits, and RBIs. Howie Kendrick is second in batting average. Todd Donovan of the Dodgers lead the minors in stolen bases with 65.
- Of course, the Dodgers' AA Jacksonville club won 2005 team of the year.
- Finally, I didn't mention that Andy LaRoche has updated his journal.
