Pickoff Moves, Lunchtime Edition

If Only

If "ifs" and "buts" were candies and nuts, what a merry postseason it would be. Too bad about Vlad's early vacation, eh?

Larry Walker "Not Coming Back"

Cardinals outfielder Larry Walker says he's "not coming back" after the NLCS Game 6 loss to the Astros.
"I couldn't even breathe," Walker told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "All these emotions were going every direction. I knew it was it. I'm not coming back."

Jim Duquette Takes Over In Baltimore

Jim Duquette has signed a three-year deal as the team's new vice president of baseball operations. Are they looking for a GM? I assume he's the man...

Roy Oswalt Wins NLCS MVP

Roy Oswalt won the NLCS MVP:
"The best thing about the whole thing was to give the trophy to my dad after the celebration, just because growing up, he was never late coming home to get me to a ballgame," said Oswalt, who won Games 2 and 6 in the series and finished with a 1.29 ERA. "He got up at 5:30 in the morning and got back home at five in the afternoon to get me to the game by seven. To give it to him, that meant more to me than winning it. He didn't want to take it, but that's the way he is."
Oswalt is the only pitcher active in the majors to have two consecutive 20-win seasons in 2004 and 2005.

Comments:
Oswalt is what I fear Harden could become. He pretty much killed the Cards throwing just his fastball. He tailed it; he cut it; he sunk it; he was hitting corners. A total clinic on movement and location. Clemens's amazing season notwithstanding, I think he's their best pitcher.

Do we have a translation? I'm asking my Korean friend, but I'm not sure he'll be back in the office until Monday.

Q&A: ARod & Guerrero
Q:Comments on your poor performance during the DS.
A:I don't know what to say.
Q:Any thing you can say regarding your less than stellar defense during the 2nd game?
A:I am just sorry.
Q:Well, how do you justify yourself as the highest paid player?
A:I tried but........
Q:No HR is one thing but not 1 RBI?
A:Yeah....I played like a dog....
Q:Your last at bat was like pouring cold water to your entire team.
A:I tried my best but..........

Q:Sitting next to ARod, Mr. Guerrero, can you please say something? Your CS avg is .050. Don't you feel some responsibility?
A:Gurrero SCREAMS~~~~~~~~~~~~

Reporters mill out saying 'thank you for the interview' 'wow....look at the time' 'it was a great interview' 'got to go meet the deadline'

Comment: It isn't uncommon for superstars to not show up for the post season, but the reason why all the attention is on ARod is because he is a superstar that can be compared w/ no other.
