Dodger Stadium Mods
A section of Dodger Stadium with seats removed. In a cost-cutting move, fans will be required to bring their own folding chairs in the future. I keed, I keed... new seats will restore the park to its original color scheme; some sections will add tables, and presumably, the new seats in the former foul areas will be lowered to improve sight lines. More about this at dodgers.com and by Bill Shaikin in the Times. Old seats will be made available for $250-$500 the pair, the proceeds going to the Dodger Dream Foundation.

Astros owner Drayton McLane on Dodgers managerial candidate Terry Collins:After three consecutive second-place finishes in the National League Central, from 1994 to '96, Collins was replaced by the milder Larry Dierker. Still, McLane recalled that Collins was "the best communicator I've ever seen," and described him as consistently "upbeat and positive."By that metric, Mike Scioscia should be nervous...However, McLane concluded, "I'm not sure managing is his best suit. … He's got that fiery emotion. Sometimes, that might get the best of him."
Informed that Collins could be the Dodgers' next manager, McLane said, "But that was his first opportunity at managing. I've had several people tell me that a manager is really not a good manager until he's been fired twice. So, I told Terry after he was with the Angels, 'Now you're ready to be a manager.'"
Asked what Collins needed to fix about his style when he left the Astros, McLane said, "His aggressiveness with players. I think that was a great learning experience for him. You've got to be patient and learn your way through the process. He learned from us. And the Angels, he learned with them. He's ready to go again. He's matured."

There were no meltdowns, no last-minute disasters, no Pujols three-run dingers, the Astros getting to Agent Mulder in the third and never looking back. I wonder what Walt Jocketty thinks of his big ace now. Did he know that two times on the postseason mound would be two losses? Maybe it wasn't in the cards, so to speak: blowing up one's home park isn't a good omen. And next year, more decline from Jim Edmonds, no Larry Walker, and nothing in the farm. Maybe they get Scott Rolen back. We'll see.Look: I want no part of the team that beat the Angels, especially after learning Ozzie Guillen practices the bloody arts of Santeria. Go Astros! Beat the barbarians!
