John Hart Quits As Rangers GM

John Hart, Texas Rangers GM, has resigned. His replacement will be Jon Daniels, at 28 the youngest GM in major league history.

Jim Leyland Takes Over For Trammell In Detroit

Having fired Alan Trammell some days ago, Detroit has hired 60-year-old Jim Leyland to replace him.

Oakland Offers To Re-Up Macha

The A's have given a contract offer to Ken Macha. Whether he returns is still unclear.

In related news, A's hitting coach Ken Hudgins won't be back in 2006.

Rogers Not A Ranger

In one of John Hart's last acts, the club has announced it will not give Kenny Rogers a contract extension.

Tracy Leading Candidate For Bucs Job

Jim Tracy is a leading candidate to manage the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"I don't have any idea as to the Pittsburgh Pirates and what their thinking is," Tracy said. "I have no idea about that situation or what direction any club is taking."

Tracy has some ties to the Pittsburgh area -- he played college baseball at longtime Division III power Marietta College, about 120 miles from Pittsburgh.

Littlefield hinted Tuesday that the Pirates need to move quickly, with other teams already hiring new managers and the Marlins and Devil Rays also on the market. Littlefield called former Pirates manager Jim Leyland on Monday and tried to set up an interview, but Leyland was already on his way to Detroit to interview there.

Maybe he and Daryle Ward can amuse each other with tales from the good old days, when they were with organizations that actually won more than 70 games...

Peavy's Rib Busted

Jake Peavy broke a rib and will miss the rest of the postseason. He did it during the pile-on after San Diego clinched the division.

Angels Announce Minor League Awards

The Angels have announced their minor league awards for 2005. Brandon Wood and Howie Kendrick are co-Player of the Year, while Joe Saunders made Pitcher of the Year and Jeff Mathis Defensive Player of the Year.
