Dodgers Close To Decision, Colletti Leading Candidate

Whether you believe it or not, the Times says the Dodgers are close to a decision as to which GM candidate they are going to hire, and that the leading candidate is Ned Colletti. Theo Epstein is also in the running, but his candidacy is complicated by his apparent interest in running the Nationals. Whether he even gets to interview for that role depends on the actual sale of the team, which has dragged on lo these many.

The Dodgers expect to announce the identity of the team's GM before Frank McCourt flies off to the owners' meetings in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Comments:
How can he be the leading candidate if they haven't seen him yet? There was all the hoo-haa over him getting permission to meet with LA, but no notice at all about when they met, no "Yeah, they showed me around, blah blah blah" photo/interview op that many candidates get?

Seems incongruent that he quietly interviews, even Gillick got a mention that he met with LA on the Monday, just before he decided to accept the Phillies job on Tuesday.

But if he really did meet McCourt and is close to getting the job, wow, I wonder if he would want the Giants bench coach, Ron Wotus, to manage the Dodgers. Would seem kind of Bizarro world to have two long time Giants employees at the helm of the Dodgers, their two most visible and important positions.

My theory is it's a stealth infiltration. First McCourt, then the GM-of-the-month Club, then the former Giants employees. McCourt actually missed an opportunity to retain another ex-Giant FO guy when Frank let Corey Busch go to a ceremonial position rather than a meaningful job in the organization. Busch was the last tie between the pre-Magowan Giants and the present-day ownership, and was acting as an advisor to McCourt during the purchase process.
