Football, Baseball -- It's All The Same To Plaschke

Regarding who should win the Heisman and why, Plaschke intones that Reggie Bush should get the award, regardless of whether anyone actually saw his performance last weekend. Welcome to Plaschkeland, where up is down, and even watching performance isn't necessary to know whether a player is good or not. Mark this day: here he admits he's a complete and utter loon, choosing winners and losers before the game starts, prejudiced from the left side of his keyboard to the right.

Such is the character who helped to run DePodesta out of town.

Comments:
Of all the incredible digits accrued by the nation's all-purpose yardage leader, the most amazing is this:

Reggie Bush averages 10 yards every time he touches the ball.

Hmm ... a numbers argument. And you don't even have to have observed the player to know he's the best? Well played ...

What I read from it was that he liked the choice of Bush, thus endorsing Mike McFeely's choice. McFeely never saw Bush playing, but as Jon pointed out, if you voted for him, ironically enough, you had to do so on the strength of numbers.

Reggie Bush leads in total All-Purpose Yards and All-Purpose Yards per game, but of the top 100 players in Division 1-A in that category, 37 of the players average more yards each time they touch the ball than Bush does.

Brandon Williams of Wisconsin averages 18.63 yards each time he touches the ball. However, he's a receiver.

Of those 37 players, all but one is a receiver. The one running back with more averages just a little more than Bush (Felix Jones of Arkansas at 10.40).

It's possible that Bush won't end up leading in this category when the season is over. Jerome Harrison of Washington State is in the clubhouse with 192 all purpose yards per game.

Despite all this, speaking as a UCLA fan, I think Reggie Bush is great.

i'm not that old, but reggie bush is the most dazzling, phenomenal player i've ever seen. his moves are jaw-dropping. i hope he gets the heisman. since the numbers back up what is pretty plain to see, there's no reason he shouldn't get it. sure, he's not perfect, and he made a couple of mistakes against fresno state, but without bush, USC would've been defeated quite a while ago.
