Pickoff Moves, Lunchtime Edition

Where's DePo?

Blez speculates he's coming back to the A's, while this AZ Snakepit diary entry, pointing out an East Valley Tribune story, makes it sound like another landing place for the ex-Dodger GM could be in Arizona. Wonder what he'd do with the Shawn Green and Troy Glaus contracts...

McCourt To Have A Good 2006?

At least, that's what Blue Think Tank seems to believe, cooking up a 3.4 million home attendance.

Speaking Of Nightmares

He-who-shall-not-be-named gets one, i.e. Steve Phillips. The Dodgers have been the Mets over the last decade; what would the Mets be if you trimmed their payroll by about $20-30M, padded the front office with relatives of the owners, and stirred up trouble every third week? Yup.

Breaking The Bank

The Chronicler links to this Daily Southtown article indicating the price for Thomian excess in the case of aging slugger Paul Konerko is four years and $52M. If the Angels have managed to stampede Kenny Williams and the White Sox into such a deal -- well, I think Bill Stoneman deserves a bonus. The Cleveland Indians will thank him profusely, no doubt, and Batgirl might even kiss him one day, assuming the Bat-husband wasn't looking.

But Was He Laughing When He Said It?

Bud Selig, on the mess in the Dodgers front office:
Everybody wants to do the best for their franchise. I know the McCourts do, too. I'm sure that they'll get the train on the track. I don't have any great concerns today.
Selig then flung his black cape around his face, twirled his long black moustache, and exited the room hastily, cackling to himself as he did so.

Comments:
Thanks for the link to my analysis of Dodger attendance. It will be interesting to see if all the McCourt ownership issues cause the actual attendance to diviate much from projected attendance.

On another note, Selig's comment that "I'm sure that they'll get the train on the track" is more or less an acknowledgement that the Dodger train is currently derailed. I'm surpised he would make such a statement about a fellow member of the owners club.

"Fellow member"? He sold his ownership of the Brewers this year to Mark Attanasio (sp?)...
